Frequently Asked Questions

How do I enroll my child in Basic Concepts Summer Program?
Enrollment begins with a phone conversation to discuss your child's strengths, areas of need, and overall fit for the program.  Most classroom placements and eligibility can be made through this discussion, along with review of recent progress reports, evaluations, and/or IEP's.

In some cases, an informal screening may be recommended to help determine eligibility and the most appropriate class placement.  Screenings typically last approximately 30 minutes and are designed to be low-pressure and child-friendly.

Does my child need to be potty trained for the 3-5 year old classes?
No. Our staff will work collaboratively with you to determine whether you child is ready to begin potty training. If your child is ready, we will help establish an appropriate schedule and support your child during the program.

If your child is not yet ready for potty training, families are asked to provide diapers, wipes, and extra clothing for the classroom.

Please note that children age 6 and older must be able to use the bathroom independently.

Does Basic Concepts accept health insurance? Will my insurance cover the Summer program?
Basic Concepts does not currently accept any health insurance plans, and tuition for the summer program is due on the first day of the program.

Some insurance companies may offer reimbursement for intensive speech-language therapy services, which typically involve one hour per day of direct therapy. Coverage and reimbursement vary by plan, so families are encouraged to contact their insurance provider directly to inquire about eligibility.

Upon request, Basic Concepts can provide an itemized bill to submit to your insurance company. We can also provide an invoice for FHA/FSP reimbursement purposes.

Is financial assistance available?
Please contact us so that we may assist you further with possible options.

Does Basic Concepts Summer Program offer before or after care?
Yes, Basic Concepts Summer Programs do offer before care, starting at 8am.  We do not have after care hours.

Does Basic Concepts Summer Program provide transportation?
No. Basic Concepts Summer Program does not provide transportation.

How does Basic Concepts determine the most appropriate class for my child?
Class placement is based on several factors, including your child's age, strengths, goals, and current skill level. In most cases, placement can be determined through a phone conversation with our staff along with a review of relevant records such as evaluations, progress reports, or IEPs.

Can we attend Basic Concepts Summer Program for only 2-3 days a week instead of 5?
Our Summer program is designed to help children make meaningful progress toward their goals through full-time participation. For this reason, enrollment is offered first to students who are able to attend five days per week for the full session.

If space becomes available after full-time enrollment is complete, we may offer limited spots for children attending two to three days per week.

Can we visit the facility before Basic Concepts Summer Program begins?
Unfortunately, we are not able to offer facility tours prior to the start of the summer program. Basic Concepts does not have access to the building until one to two days before the program begins, and that time is dedicated to classroom setup and staff training.

Families are welcome to drive by the facility and view the playground area before the program begins. We kindly ask that you respect the safety rules and staff at St. Elizabeth's School and refrain from entering the building prior to our scheduled access.
